EA Let Us Down Under the Promise of Ultimate Edition Plus Rewards
I paid $135 for the EA SPORTS FC 27 Ultimate Edition Plus pre-order, and that decision was not random. Like many other players, I made my purchase based on the benefits and rewards promoted by EA, especially the opportunity to receive valuable player items, including an Icon, as well as the benefits included in the Season Pass.
But after seeing what we actually received, I have to ask: what is the real benefit of paying extra for the Ultimate Edition Plus?
For me, the Icon was one of the main reasons I decided to pre-order this edition. I expected to receive a valuable player who could actually help me build my squad at the beginning of the game, especially considering that this edition costs significantly more than the Standard Edition.
Instead, I ended up with an Icon that I cannot really make meaningful use of in my squad. On top of that, the other Season Pass rewards did not provide the kind of valuable players I expected from an edition that costs $135.
The biggest problem is that the whole system now feels like it comes down to luck.
If the most important rewards we paid for are entirely dependent on luck, and a player who bought the Standard Edition can potentially receive much better player cards than someone who paid $135 for the Ultimate Edition Plus, then what is the actual value of the pre-order?
I am not saying that every Ultimate Edition Plus buyer should receive the exact same players or specific cards. However, when you pay significantly more because of additional benefits and rewards that are promoted as part of the value of the edition, it is reasonable to expect those benefits to have meaningful value in the game.
What happened made me feel like I paid for the promise of premium rewards, only to end up with a system based almost entirely on luck, while a player who purchased the cheaper edition can end up with much better rewards than I received.
So here is my question to EA:
If everything ultimately comes down to luck, what is the real benefit of paying $135 for the Ultimate Edition Plus?
We did not buy the pre-order simply for early access or cosmetic items. We bought the more expensive edition because we expected to receive real additional value from the rewards and premium players that were promoted as part of the package.
When buyers do not feel that value, it is completely understandable that they feel they paid for something that did not deliver what they expected.
EA, if the Ultimate Edition Plus is truly worth this price, then we want to see that value reflected in the rewards — not just in the marketing.
