What am I doing wrong?

I used to be a really decent player, always sitting in div 1, played at a good pro clubs level as a CDM, even had one 25-0 weekend league a few years ago.

 

Every game just seems to be against someone who constantly has 11 men behind the ball, or if they've attacked then they have 2 banks of 4 at the halfway line with my attackers either just stood offside or not making any sort of run.   It feels like I've got zero passing lanes anywhere, with him being able to control whatever closest player to block off passes because his other 9 outfield players are in perfect banks giving you no space.   It feels like they intercept everything, it feels like they can clatter me from behind non stop and never give away a foul.  It feels like the opposition defender can ALWAYS catch up to whichever striker, no matter what pace or strength.

It feels like whenever they attack, I've got to manually jockey and predict 15 turns and twists, and if I dare get one wrong, it's an immediate goal because my CMs/CDMs are nowhere to be seen, and my defense are so spread out and god forbid help eachother.  It feels like my full backs play everyone onside and then are impossible to select when trying to track back. Feels like my players would never tackle/intercept someone unless it's 100% perfect. 

 

What am I doing wrong? is it custom tactics, is it formation, is it team, what is it? This is driving me nuts that I'm apparently so terrible now.  I'm sure people will say about defending manually this year, but I'm a brilliant tracker from my time playing as a CDM, but if I predict 14 turns out of 15, the 15th will put them through on goal.

Please help, I'm going mad.

    Not u`re fault bro! Hope they`ll solve this with this major update as they promised. I feel same. No matter what tactics are. Now i play 4312....it goes well for me with short passing and 95 depth, also what goes good for me, it`s Mourinho`s tactics applied( if i remember correctly it`s a 4213 with short passing and 90 or 92 depth).

    I really hope there's an update soon to stop it.

    I've changed things to counter attack, at about ~70 depth and f me, every game's been like 8-7 either way.  Still hella frustrating conceding to lb-y all the time to players whose attackers seem to make constant perfect runs while the high rated defenders are statues.  Eugh whatever, just hope that potentially with a future patch the game might turn into.. yknow... a football simulator? With passing, ground through balls, crosses, intelligent defensive & attacking AI and not just end to end ridiculousness
