I have so much negative things to say about this.
I will go by one suggestion instead: Keep all the unclaimed rewards open during the entire season.
This is a game, not a lawyer appointment, people played for the rewards, everybody has other priorities in life, game is by far the least important thing to remember.
At least keep unclaimed rewards open until to the end of the event.
