Cover 3 Match issues

1. Seam Flats not carrying #2 verticals properly.

Can't have match coverage if verticals aren't being carried right. This is fundamental.

2. Leverage not maintained vs horizontal routes.

Shallow crossers, deep overs, corners, etc, doesn't matter. Hook Curls, Seam Flats, and deep 3rd aren't keeping getting consistently out leveraged.

3. Maintaining your pattern match throughout the Play.

C'mon now...what's the point of playing match if you're just gonna leave your man once the ball is released.

Zone Coverage ZCV rating should be used to determine effectiveness on pattern matching and carrying verticals BOTH,

  • Bump and Bump!  As mentioned on another of your posts the people running Madden appear to have never played football and apparently don't even ask advice of people that have.

Also I'd say they could add in adjustments to man coverage.  If my SS is in Man coverage against TE Travis Kelce why does the idiot give him a 12 yard cushion?  Additionally AWR rating could be used to determine if your defensive player abandons his zone to help cover elsewhere.  A right side Flat zone coverage can be abandoned when all potential receivers have went deep and to the left side.  Your DB should shade over and drop back, possibly rush the QB.... act like a real player.

  • Ready happy to see someone else post this.

I tried to submit a bug report for this that included game footage, but it wouldn't take it.

Cover 3 Match rules are broken just as you described. It works well against some formations and in others it breaks down completely.

I hope they fix this soon. It's a great defense when it works.

I could go on and on.

The bottom line is, when it comes to match coverage in this game issue are...

    1. Divider alignment. (Covered in these videos)

    2. Leverage. Rip/Liz or "Seam Flats" in this game need to maintain OUTSIDE leverage vs #2. When #2 does not go vertical THEY CONVERT TO CURL FLAT DEFENDERS.

    3. Communication and "passing off" between Flat and Hook Curls defenders.

Crossers CONSISTENTLY out leverageing defenders. Deep or shallow, doesn't matter. Shouldn't be the case.

If they wanna say " well they how would anyone gain yards vs this defense?

Simple. Effectiveness of the defenders should be weighted by their Zone Coverage (ZCV) rating.

And...if they have a zone ability, that ability should carry over to the match... every time. No "cancelling out" vs certain routes.
