Thanks for the reply!
I love getting into the nuance of how we make our football decisions. I use a defensive playbook as well, but I'm nowhere near as discriminating on D. I just grab gobs of Goal Line, 4-3, Nickel, Dime, and Quarters formation sets and throw all the plays in - like soup. I only remove plays when they don'[t come in multiples of 3. Those orphan plays bother me... LOL
On offense though, that's where the joy begins. Because of my 6 play limit per set, I have multiple formations that look the same (Singleback Duece Flex and Dice Slot for example), but the play selection is different. In one I have a Dive and a Power, in the other it's a Stretch, an Inside Zone, and an 01 Trap. My opponent sees the formation and has 7 potential threats that can't all be defended the same; meanwhile execution for me remains simple. My audibles are set so that I have:
1 Quick Pass
1 Run
1 Long Pass
1 PA Pass
Each play types lives at the same button... The only break from this is when a formatioin is run or pass heavy and I am forced to make modifications.
MaddenUniversity You're playbook and style actually sounds like a lot of fun! I love heavy sets and old school style football.
Admittedly I've been swinging back into more Shotgun formations this year than in the past...specifically more Bunch which has a lot of really nice motion plays I love out of both Shotgun and Singleback. Bunch X-Nasty has exellent goaline plays too. Trips and Trio have excellent RPO's that I enjoy using, along with some really effective PA Shot Plays. Mostly though, I love my I-Formations. That's my bread and butter. Normally I stick with four I-Formation sets, and run more Singleback, but this year I have about 6 or 7 different I-Formations while limiting myself in Singleback more, only using Deuce, Ace, BunchX, and Wing formations. Deuce Close has been a personal favoritve of mine for years.
This is actually the first year since I started playing again not to choose to make a defensive playbook though. I've found a couple that I've enjoyed and just kind of stuck with them. Been using Detroit and Chicago for 4-3; Minnesota and NE for 3-4 as my Bases. I love Quarters formation which I've always run in my past defensive playbooks, but don't tend to use it this year since I haven't made a defensive playbook. Much more Nickle for me this year than Quarters and Dollar that I've run in the past. I feel you on them orphan plays though, I'm the same way lol!
