Check and release assignments need to be better
IRL Check and Release assignments aren't reading a particular defender before going into their routes.
Instead they're scanning a particular AREA. I've been asking for this for the last few years ever since it was implemented in the game and it has yet to be done right.
You're checking on guy, he goes in coverage and another rusher comes through that same gap Scott free. Doesn't make any sense.
It's a simple fix:
- HB set to "check" the backside C-Gap to B-Gap, and if no rush threat presents itself...go into your route.
- HB set to "check" the A-Gap to BOTH B-Gaps and if no rush threat comes...go into route.
- Strong side C-Gap to B-Gap. Same as above
- TEs C-Gap to corner.
Time to make these check and release assignments smarter. Makes no sense to have every other pass protector doing on thing (zone pass pro) while the TE and/or RB are in Man assignments.
