I like this idea... The way it works now, we are essentially drawing up plays on the field. We are adjusting our way to the play we wish we had in our playbook, instead of drawing up the play and adjusting it on the field.
I have a play that is one route away from being the play I wish I had. If I had a Singleback:Duece Flex::TE Post play where the drag was a slant, I'd be happy. Then I wouldn't have to call that as my first Hot Route every time I run it. Then I'd only need to "Adjust" my HB and O-Line because the routes I want would be on the field already.
It's be even better if we could put our shading preferences in the playcall... My old hands aren't fast enough to keep up with my brain. My muscle memory still wants to use L1 and R1 for defensive line and linebacker shifts respectively.
