Old fan coming back after 6 years
I’ve been playing madden since the early 2000, and loved it till the mid to late teens, but continued to buy until 2020. This is my first time back and I figured to give an honest review.
- Superstar mode draft combine is pretty cool in that it’s a new way to determine your draft stock, and the games are not too hard to learn.
- Superstar gameplay and in game experience is absolute garbage. Camera angles are weird. The same “run onto the field” animation at the beginning of drives was the same for each drive, no matter which quarter I was in. The CPU defenders and offensive players are too robotic and run very chaotically. The crowd is barely shown, the players barely celebrate first downs, good catches, or long gains. Commentary is very generic and barely say anything insightful about the team (previous performances, draft class, roster improvements, etc)
- Franchise mode was the worst I’ve ever played. Commentary was not able to be heard over the crowd until I adjusted the audio settings and it was one play behind. The halftime music played through the entire second half over the commentary. The animations are unpredictable for defenders when passing, and their movements defy physics. The on field stat graphics and crowd camera angles were non existent. The running feels so delayed and the trucking, stiff arms, and spins don’t work. Transitions between plays feels very rushed and quick to bring up the playcalling graphic without any type of cutscenes.
I’ll be requesting a refund and never looking to play the game again, it just isn’t fun. Hopefully the exclusivity license expires so we can get a fresh new football game. I’m tempted to try NCAA, but don’t have much hope after playing this.
