Just experienced this in my online CFM.  Our league is not full, so I used a second account, joined the league, took control of a CPU-controlled team, and fired the OC. The member having the issue was able to hire that same OC. Problem solved.

I definitely did not want to sim an entire season, we just got to the pre-season.

I appreciate the advice fellas! It was helpful resolving the issue.
