So, I respect the need to want to fix the "loop blitz". I just HOPE that a more comprehensive solution is in the works down the line.
My suggestions are a follows:
1. Bring back the "Pancake block penalty" for folks running light boxes (Dime/Dollar/etc...) vs base and heavy sets (12/21/22/13 personnel). The INCLUDES defenders with abilities. In these situations abilities should be negated. I don't care if you're Joe Greene, even he's not blowing up a running play vs base and heavy sets in a Dime or Dollar.
The reason why light box blitzes have quickly become the meta, is that there is very little downside vs the running game right now. Sure you may pop a run here and there, but folks are playing the numbers, knowing full well that all it takes is one blown run and you're behind the sticks.
Which leads me to the bigger issue...
2. O line blocking logic is HORRIBLE this year. Too many missed assignments or even worse o lineman either ignoring the man lined up right in front of them, or running by them without actually ENGAGING them. Not even putting hands on then.
(Note: It's not a "ratings issue" either. The best lineman in the game aren't touching guys.
And lastly...
3. Check and release logic needs work. Guys needs to be assigned an AREA as opposed to specific men like they are now. Too many guys with these assignments are running right by free rushers while going out into a route...not good. And they should NOT disengage those rushers...EVER. They should ONLY go into their route if that man isn't coming.
