unresponsive controller/mouse click playcalling or player control

This relates to Madden 19 on PC: I can load a online game (head to head or franchise) and select the kickoff play that I want (left, right, middle, etc), but after that there is such a huge lag in the controller (or mouse click when I tried using that, though the pointer itself moved fine) that I can even call a play. I have tried quite a few things. I don't like the idea of having to turn my firewall off, but I even tried that. My ping rate is about 1 or 2 ms, so that sounds like it should be okay (but correct me if I'm wrong), and my upload and download rate seem to be around 24 Mb/s, which isn't great, but I would think would be fine for calling plays if nothing else. The game art still looks good, and the players seem to run okay on kickoff (or if I'm on defense after kickoff I think they run okay there too - no major latency in that). I'm using a Xbox controller plugged into the PC, but like I said, the mouse click seems to be about as bad for unresponsiveness. I also get a message after a little while that "your opponent has experienced network problems" or something like that, and it sounds like they get the same message about me. Further, after the first delay of game penalty I get (if I am on offense after receiving opening kickoff) - since I can't call a play most of the time - the opponent doesn't seem to be able to accept or decline the penalty; I don't know if this is because the online connection has been disrupted already or not. I don't know if it is related, but it does seem like the EA servers have disconnected a fair amount since I did online franchises recently, though that just means maybe a few times a day for a very short while for the most part. I am able to play online league games just fine against the CPU, it is only against other players I can't get it to work. Can you help me? I have no idea why it is doing this. If there is any other information I can provide, please let me know. It is completely unplayable online in the current state.

Thanks, but I did that already. I also bought a new computer (which I later returned) once it was determined to be fairly likely that below requirement specs were causing the issue. It worked on the new computer. I doesn't mean that below requirement specs were absolutely the issue, but I would say the likelihood is fairly high.

That sounds really frustrating what you're going through, @jpcl221

Can you try the steps below and let us know if they helped?

    • Right-click on Madden 19 in Origin and select "Repair."
    • Unplug the modem/router power for at least 3 minutes. While you may have a good connection with your network, doing this will refresh your connection to our servers which can fix most connection issues. It could be an issue just with that link to the Madden servers.
    • Perform a clean boot and then immediately launch the game. This will disable all programs that aren't necessary to launch your PC. We can rule out whether there could be something running in the background that's conflicting with the game.
    • Unplug your devices (keyboard/mouse/controller) and re-insert them.
    • If necessary, you can open up specific ports for Madden 19 that are listed here: https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/opening-tcp-or-udp-ports-for-connection-issues/

Thanks for the reply but none of the possible fixes mentioned resolved the problem. I went through everything in the advanced troubleshooting connection page too (https://help.ea.com/en-in/help/pc/connection-troubleshooting-advanced-pc/), and that didn't fix it either. I am fairly confident I did everything in the advanced troubleshooting page correctly, as it was fairly straight forward, with the exception of opening ports (I tried to do that, but am not certain I did it correctly). While it's nice that EA provides the list of possible fixes, some of them are a little worrying to me in terms of thinking that I may be opening my computer up for someone to be able to walk in much easier, though I could be mistaken about that. It is probably just me being a little paranoid and just coincidence, but given the timing that the servers have gone down and a few things, do you know if there is a way to check if I am being redirected in a concerning way when it attempts to connect to EA server?

  • Did you find out the problem yet? I have the exact same problem.

I just realized I didn't provide a link on how to perform a clean boot. This will disable all non-Microsoft related programs when powering up your PC. There could be some type of program running in the background that's conflicting with the game, so this is a great way to find out.

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

Once you perform the clean boot, immediately right-click on the desktop shortcut and run it as administrator.

I'm fairly certain now that the problem was the computer specs were not sufficient (graphics card, and processor). I still am not sure why it works for CPU but not online player, but my only guess is that more memory storage is required because it has to buffer more for longer delivery time to server vs local, or that EA coded it differently for online players than for CPU. I would almost expect it to take less resources for online game, because CPU would only have to optimize player movement for one team and receive the other as a given input, but apparently that is not the case. In short, I don't know why, but computer being below required specs seems to be causing it to work against CPU but not online player.
