You can use your old team to play Legacy events.
Your old team can be found in the "Trophy Room."

Am I allowed to use those players for my new season? Or get them back and play with them?
- Your Legacy team is good for Legacy events only.
Every new season you start from scratch, and have to start all over again. I have "lost" three teams so far. Last season I had a pretty sweet team. Would love to have some of the players for this season, but that ain't gonna happen.
