Why did EA reverse "Madden Effect" with Overdrive (no longer NFL simulation)?

Second only to the "Madden Cover Jinx" is the newsworthiness of EA's Madden series that "Playing EA Sports Madden NFL Creates More Passionate & Knowledgable Football Fans" (as one example). I'd like...

Blitz! I had forgotten about that game. It too was fun for about 15 minutes and then just felt like you were getting stupider by the minute after that.

If Overdrive can somehow get the double pass and the late hits, it could bring back Blitz!
