About Mass Effect Andromeda
Hello to anyone who is reading this humble message written by me. This is my second message since I returned to play Dragon Age Inquisition some time ago, which by the way is a great game, but curre...
Well BioWare officially put Mass Effect as a whole on ice for the time being and said there will be no DLC for Andromeda at all.
As for the game itself, yes there were some major issues with facial animations but that's far from the only problem the game has. The story is not that good, the main character is bland and the game does still have some issues with sound and lighting that are off but mostly it looks quite good.
It also does have good combat and some beautiful looking planets to explore. So if you buy it on sale and don't have high expectations for the story it actually is an ok game to play. I've played it through a few times myself. It's just not as engaging as previous Mass Effect games.
But the game is dead in the water as far as development is concerned. The co-op still gets some support because they sell lootboxes there but that's basically it.
The audio issues I refer to aren't so much bugs as programming mistakes.
For one, when companions or npcs stand behind you their volume is lowered so you can barely hear them, especially if they haven't caught up to your location when you start a conversation. This is designed that way in the game so not a bug as such but it is an issue because I want to hear my companions' comments as well.
Another one is that sometimes companion lines trigger randomly or you listen to audio clips triggered from consoles. You cannot open crates or it will cut the audio. Also if you trigger a sound clip and at the same time your companion says something, one will cut out the other. So there is collision there that is not resolved in a smooth way.
Also when you turn on an audio clip from a console and you want to look around the room while listening to it, this is problematic because when you turn away the audio is lowered a lot as well so you have to face the console to hear what is being said. I find that all rather annoying.
Of course you speak of games that are complete. Well Andromeda isn't complete. The DLC is cancelled so it will never be complete. There are a lot of story lines that are unfinished and for example the Quarian Ark story is coming out in a book instead of the game now. So to me the game is unfinished and I find that rather unsatisfactory as well.
But there are good sides of course so the game was still fun enough for me to play through a few times, but unfortunately it will never be what it should've been. However, I do not regret buying it. I do regret what it did to Mass Effect as an IP though. Hopefully when they finally get back to Mass Effect in the future, they'll restore Mass Effect to its former glory.
this game was just okay, but for a title with mass effect in the name there is a higher standard based on previous releases. mass effect 2 is to this day still one of my favorite games of all time. the problem with MEA is that they went to a more open world format and the world they built is not interesting narratively. the plants themselves are beautiful and driving around in the nomad to see the views and different areas on each plot is a sight to behold. as an exploration game it does alright but chooses quantity over quality in its quests. so many fetch quests with no reason to care about some urgent problem for an npc you just met. the loyalty missions are pretty well done but majority of the sidequests are throwaway narratively. and there are so many you can pick up on the way to so others that it becomes overwhelming and you start to lose interest in each one as you complete another step. drive to one end of a planet to read a datapad and then go back to get an update from the npc or hear some babbling from SAM. there are a few that are memorable but for the most part its lackluster. mass effect has always been about choices that could affect an entire species. this game has none of that. most of the decisions aren't very meaningful and only change a few voicelines or decide who will he helping you at the end mission
the combat however is great. being able to change profiles in the fly to match up with different enemy types you encounter is refreshingly effective. also for creating a huge open world to explore the game definitely does that. driving in nomad is the best of the series. mass effect 1 Mako was painfully frustrating and they mostly got rid of it in me2.
overall though the game is just mass effect in name and combat abilities and weapons and races but the heart of the series is gone. I don't have any memorable decisions, like agonizing over saving Ashley or Kaiden, deciding to kill Wrex or let him live, getting to know liara tsoni as the games progressed, learning about the mystery of the reapers, saving the galaxy. etc. so many memorable choices and decisions from previous game . but at least we have a massive open world to explore thst is dotted with many many side quests from people you never met or care about.
It's very difficult for me to notice these types of bugs in the game, the only thing I care about is that the game is slow, a poorly optimized game. I already had this kind of experience in games like nier automata.
I've seen the narrative of the game and it's interesting, it does not have that kind of story like the trilogy of the mass effect because this game is already a new world, the characters at the beginning try to socialize in the new world in the world which is evolving in that they bet that it could give a fresh start in another galaxy. Do not wait for the guys to arrive and the tension start.
The story begins difficult when they realize that the world they wanted to inhabit was no longer habitable and with time we see evolution. The issue here in this game, are more political and democratic as it has always been in most games of the series. I did not see anything wrong with the story of the game I did all the missions and I did not see anything wrong with the missions, I just did not have the patience to explore the planets in search of materials. So I skipped this most of the time. I hope deep down the developers of bioware continue the story of the game, because from what I saw in that anthem there is nothing interesting besides flying around and killing giant animals, I bet it will be as bad as they did the MSA.
