Forum Discussion
Hey folks,
I've just removed or moderated a number of posts from this thread.
While I can appreciate this is a topic many people are passionate about as the Mass Effect trilogy holds a special place in many people's hearts (my own included), please keep the conversation on topic and respectful.
That absolutely does not mean you have to agree with any rumors or other posters, but there's no need to make rude or disparaging remarks about others, whether they're connected to this project or not. Please keep our forum rules in mind when posting.
Thanks for the discussion and for keeping it civil in the meantime!
- tyl04135 years agoSeasoned Veteran@instasamka95 You should spend your money elsewhere then, other than the console issue i've only heard good things about Cyberpunk (haven't had the chance to play it myself though)
- 5 years ago@tyl0413 Just think about it:
Ubisoft/Sony/Microsoft games never had sexy women and fanservice in them, and even Bioware's Dragon Age never had them.
Only EA games with attractive females were Mass Effect and Need for Speed, both my favorite series, and both got desexualized/censored now.
I just want hot girls to stay in ME and NFS, i don't need them in other EA games or games at all - 5 years ago
@tyl0413ye PC version is fine and i played it on patch 1.0.5 that was a few patches ago
in general (for everyone),
Me and my wife was talking about EA and the censuring of miranda and other developers in general, And she brought a good point up she said: Game developers these days treat us like kids, while Game of thrones which almost entire world LOVED which has blatant fricken "sibling love", and i lost count on how much nudity. i agree with her point but ofc we dont mean games should have what GoT included ("sibling love") but why is all the nudity allowed there when teens can watch it i mean it was rated 13 - 16 years in most countries some had 18 but not majority so either T for teens or M for Mature in selected countries https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/parentalguide
i really dislike these double standards its fine in movies its fine in TV shows HELL many rap music videos are more 1: vulgar and 2: has more sexy females then what the last 5 years combined in games. its so unfair and wrong. and i never thought about that what makes it all fine there with a M for MATURE rating but not in a game?
it boggles my mind PLUS said music videos are up on youtube for many teens to watch well anyone really. normally things mature the longer it goes on but game development immatured to kids standards. - tyl04135 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Naala My guess would be that it's because of movies and music being more mainstream than gaming especially in some other parts of the world. Also that nowdays the majority of the gaming market is actually the casuals and kids, at least that's what it looks like when you take a look at how much more money free to play and mobile games make.

Some things were accepted on prime time TV but less so in video games because of the misconception that video games are solely for children. That sensibility has changed. For instance, despite what's being discussed in this thread, BioWare has become less conservative over the years when it comes to nudity. In Mass Effect 3, characters shower with their clothes on. In Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda, there's full frontal nudity. I don't think an adjusted camera angle in Mass Effect 2 is a demonstration of BioWare being prudish, when they have demonstrated in the past that they're moving in the opposite direction.
I have said this before, and I'm probably going to drop it after this post, but I see no reason to believe that BioWare is making the change because they're against butts when the games they made after the Mass Effect trilogy show a lot more than just the back of someone's trousers. It was just a really dumb shot.
Anyway, here's a confirmed example of another shot that has been altered. Why is there no outrage over this? (Top: Original. Bottom: Remaster)

@tyl0413well the market is what they make there's not been many adult themed games as far as i remember the last i remember was DNF which failed for other reasons i dont really want to count Cyberpunk since that is clearly not finished xD
yup google confirm modded skyrim, Fallout and Witcher. and a few anime *. the ones who want a little more adult themed games dont get it very often and those AAA Games here are legends witcher 3 and skyrim and fallout 4 sold a bunch!
the market for adult themed games is pretty big if it wasn't Loverslab and f95zone and many more wouldn't exist its not the majority but i think this is one of those moments when fans asked for Classic wow servers and devs said "you think you want that but you don't" scenario where game devs are just to scared to take risks and that's when you get those yearly Fifa's and nhl' and cod's they are safe EA gotta make up their mind do they want to be the kid / teen dev with Sims and cuddly fluffy things and sport nerds then why buy up Dead Space and Bioware and effectively kill them off. OR they let the dev teams they bought to DO THEIR JOB no ties no handicaps they need to give Bioware free hands NOT force them to use Frostbite engine which sets back their dev time let them use what they want and not letting people like Anita Sarkeesian near them etc etc etc. by doing this they are killing Bioware since they cant do what they are best at and Frostbite has been holding them back and some of them said that for a while now.
"at least that's what it looks like when you take a look at how much more money free to play and mobile games make"
Well our voices get suppressed many dont want to complain coz there wont do any good again look at this thread 12 pages look at youtube how many videos are against this censorship will EA care? no females voices get silenced only the females who are agreeing with them are allowed to talk again look what happened to Gina and many more even a lot of females are outraged over Miranda's censorship will EA care? no
Also thats the second huge issue how much a game makes according to EA, Anthem was a HIT coz it sold a LOT was Anthem a good game? no its not all about making money. there has been many games ahead of their time and when time cached up those games Blossomed that dont mean it was total flop. also if they would make GOOD games they will sell but most companies have almost 0 reputation these days for various mess ups, First they gotta start making good games and maybe take a loss and CONTINUE with that to gain the reputation back you cant force the fans to like them for just "hey look we stopped with this in 2 games we good now yeah?" thats not how it works
So of course that's how it will look when big companies have the power to let some speak and silence those who they don't agree with i am not saying all of them are using that power but it sure as hell look like it when they don't listen to the fans and just go on what a select few are saying.all big companies are totally out of touch when it comes to what fans want why? because SJW has a louder voice. you have 2 groups of people near eachother 30 people in one group and 200 in one people most of which are silence, but in the big group there is 30 screaming and shouting this does not mean that all those 170 agree with those screaming and shouting, but they are there so they have to right? this mentality if flawed and it has been VERY clear that there is more people who want original scenes and yet it dont matter. Thats why people dont speak up anymore coz why bother speaking up when none of it really matter.
sry for the rant :S - 5 years ago
@Fred_vdp
i agree with most of what you said but those "kids" who started playing games back in the 80s and hell even 90s are adults now and not much games for us unless they allow for mod support remember our talk was about game devs in general that means Ubisoft, EA, Activision etc. Not just EA and this topic although that was the trigger for the bigger conversation.
"BioWare has become less conservative over the years"
Not nearly enough compared to Movies and TV which it should be by now in my opinion. and probably would be if these SJW and Resetera wouldn't exist
"Anyway, here's a confirmed example of another shot that has been altered. Why is there no outrage over this? (Top: Original. Bottom: Remaster)"
i can counter you and say "Whats wrong with the original? " i see nothing wrong with it and no reason to change it.to me i would still prefer the original yes the new one is more personal but original gives more background and shows more of the surrounding the best thing Bioware could do is just give the player control over the camera or not change them. the more they change the more i think its false advertising it don't look like a Remaster it looks more like a Remake don't think it would hold in court that's just my opinion xD
Just imagine if someone would make a 100% Remaster of Duke Nukem 3D or original Shadow Warrior nothing left out nothing censured would that be accepted by today's standards?
im going out on a limb here and say big fat nope!!! why? this is what i mean games are going backwards they were controversial back then but today 25 years later people should be more progressive not regressive - SofaJockeyUK5 years agoHero+
BioWare are essentially doing a 'Director's Cut' of the cutscenes.
With higher definition to play with, they have the option to make the game look fresh and sharp.
We'll see soon enough how the exercise has turned out.
@SofaJockeyUKyeah that makes perfect sense Director's Cut with a new Director and a new vision instead of making the game they couldn't done back then remember Miranda was supposed to be blond but due to "Technical difficulties" they couldn't do it which i call total BS on.
Having the zoom on those chars so close as in Fred_vdp
post #121 will look terrible on my pretty big and close monitor since most games are quite zoomed out for a wide angle effect i built around that unless i can zoom it out my self it will feel like i am standing 15 inches from them :S Options are key i cant stress this enough they should have a toggle in menu for original or the "new" version PLUS this could been a great "test" for the new game to see what people preferred in terms of style
we will all see how it turns out this is true, since EA wont stop to listen to us its quite clear they dont give a [CM - Edited profanity] but stop defending them for silly decisions like this the people have spoken again on utube and here there is a handful of people who dont mind and dont care, if they truely dont mind and dont care they also wont mind having the original scenes.vs the thousands who really want the original scenes
i do agree that the sharpness and overall fidelity looks better but i cant get behind butt censorship and the unnecessary zoom some scenes also lost some details in the comparisions - 5 years ago
Where was that screenshot change confirmed? when Im looking at them side by side i find it weird they even needed to change it. Like, not sure what they gained aside from the zoomed in maybe showing off the higher detail in the remaster? Otherwise i dont see why it even needed to be changed. Will confirm though, if you had not shown me this I would not have noticed the difference ingame.
