bypass cursor moving on its own

Hi all

I've just started up ME2 again and am having some trouble with the bypass mini game (and the screen where you can view your armour changes but I'll get to that later). I've never had this issue on previous playthroughs so dont know whats wrong here.

I'm playing on the xbox 360.

Basically whenever I try to bypass anything (crates, safes, doors) the cursor keeps moving in the direction you started moving it even when you stop touching the thumbstick. The only way to stop it from moving off on its own is to move the stick in another direction but then it just moves off that way.

It cant be the stick or a problem with the control pad as the left stick is the one used to move your character and they stop walking as soon as I stop moving the stick. It also doesn't keep moving when trying to do the hacking mini game.

Also when you are changing your armour if you touch the stick your character will keep spinning around as if you are holding the stick down. Its like the game still thinks you're holding the stick to move even when you're not and its only doing it on the bypass and armour change screens and nowhere else.

I've tried 2 different copies of the game, turning the camera sensitivity to its lowest setting, saving and loading, importing and starting with new characters.

I definitely dont remember the cursor constantly moving by itself in previous playthroughs so pretty sure it's not an intentional part of the game.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Looking around online it seems to happen to people in other games and they call it "drifting".

In my case it only seems to be happening in ME2, I've just put 44 hours into ME1 and had no drifting whatsoever and even if it was drift would it not affect everything which uses the thumbsticks like walking, aiming and even trying to line up with something to interact with it? The only thing that gets this drifting is the bypass mini game and the change armour appearance screen and even on that only the character spins around, when selecting new armour pieces or colours the little slider only moves one at a time and doesn't cycle through them all as if it thinks the thumbstick is still being held.
