I take it you mean a combo detonation. You (or a team mate) prime an enemy and then use a detonator. When you select skills it is noted if it is a primer or a detonator. You usually need to get it to a certain level. Adding fire or ice to weapon ammo will also act as a primer.

"Detonators" are skills that activate combo effects. For example, if you use incendiary ammo and the enemy goes glowey red you can then shoot it with a detonator skill to cause a combo "explosion" for a fire combo.
Detonator skills have a wee blue icon on the right hand side of the main skill icon. Combat versions are the red skils, Tech skills are yellow, Biotics are blue. The icon is supposed to be an old school TNT detonator like in cowboy movies.
Thank you very much for your reply. I know about bio and tech but I have no idea about "combat" one. Using the Prestige, under combat, I can see a list of skills there. And I have no idea how I have achieved 50 combat detonations. Since sticky grenade, flak cannon and another grenade skill are under this list, I thought perhaps using them will count as a combat detonation but I am not sure hence posting a question here.
Thank you very much, Iexandro, I didn't notice the colour ring. Now you have mentioned it, I have better understanding of what are combat skills. So, if I prime an enemy, say, with snap freeze, then I can use a concussive shot to detonate it?

Exactly correct.
Primers have the icon on the left side of the main symbol. Any primer can be triggered with any detonator skill. Mix and match for alternative effects.

Combat Detonation = Using a combat skill to detonate a combo.
