Cannot start game, Another instance of the game is already running

After I relocated the downloaded game location from orgin (along with the installed files), my ME3 cannot start.

Every time it displays 'Another instance of the game is already running' error.

  • Do a full un-/re-install (make a copy of your saves folder first!)

You can specify where you want your games installed when using EA/Origin by going to the "Application Settings -> Advanced" tab.

Won't take long, and I'd bet that the problem is a registry entry that's pointing to the wrong location.

Did you restarted your PC? If yes and the problem persist,i recomand you to reinstall the game.

tried restart computer, it works. But after I started the game for the second time, the error returns. I set origin to run under admin priviledge and reinstalled the game, same issue.

Now I can only run ME3 once before I need to restart my computer, so lame ☹️

I’m afraid I can’t help with the original problem, but you should be able to shut down the running instance of ME3 in the Windows Task manager without restarting your computer every time.

That's where it confuses me, I don't see any mass effect exe running in my task manager (no execuables runnning from the game install path) even if I click 'show processes from all users'

That is weird. Did you tray a repair installation?

  • I noticed after system startup origin icon missing in tool bar so I  tried to open TheSims4 and it did not load. I tried to open origin and it said another instance was already running. I did an uninstall of origin, then re-downloaded it, and it asked me for my username and password and after that I repaired my game to make sure it was in tact. Now I am opening TheSims4.

The result is ... The game starts perfectly.

The only problem was that a day ago another program did an update of itself called Real Player, Real Times, and I noticed that it is a high end file that opens up at the start automatically and it might just have slowed down the loading of other apps such as Skype, which was not loaded and origin was probably loading only taking a longer time than usual so I figure that I may have to remover RealPlayer-RealTimes until I really need it.

I don't see any problem with TheSims4 at the moment. All is good.

  • I just went through this, and ended up on the anti-cheat website and did most of it's suggestions, to conclude with placing the Star wars Squadrons file folder into the antivirus exceptions list. Hope this helps. gg's. Enjoy.
