Character models disappear

My Mass Effect is a PC version, digital download. I have windows 8, a realively young, new computer. (Just about 6 months old)

I've been playing the game flawlessly up to Noveria.

Upon Noveria, after I exited the Mako to proceed inside Peak 15, my characters turned into black blobs. The enemies turned into less defined black squares. I was able to shoot and kill all enemies, my teammates (Which were Kadian and Ashley), reacted as they were suppose to and began engaing them. It remained like this. I shot down all the enmies and tried to proceed past them, my characters remained black blobs and some of the cover used by the enemy remained black.

I have tried rebooting the game from an earlier save, the same thing happened. Because of the weather, my computer has already performed a restart, and nothing had changed.
Anyone else have this problem?
For any doubters, yes, this Mass Effect is a legal copy and I already got the update to fix the not starting up issue.

This is caused by incompatible hardware, more specifically the AMD FX processors. It's entirely the fault of AMD.
There's a workaround that switches the graphical glitch for another one that is slightly less irritating: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Mass-Effect-1/AMD-CPU-ISSUES-ON-MASS-EFFECT-NAMELY-ILOS-AND-NOVERIA-MISSIONS/td-p/199660
