Chasca glitch (not the one you think)

Hello, forum. I'm playing Mass Effect 1 for the first time (hooray, cheap gamers!) on the back-compatible x-box 1 version. Love the game, had no issues until getting to Chasca for the UNC: Colony of the Dead mission. At civilian building #2 (as marked on the mass effect wiki here: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Chasca), each time I attempt to exit the building, I go through an abnormally long loading scene and, rather than exiting to the Chasca landscape, I enter a room above and outside the walls over the 2nd civilian building, unable to exit. 

I have some screenshots, if they're needed and I can figure out how to share them. Any help would be appreciated.
