Dark Skintones Rendering As Red

Hi everyone!

I used one of the darker skintones to create my Shepard, and in a lot of cutscenes she looks literally red. All the other characters’ skin tones look fine, it’s just Shep who is looking very sunburnt. I’ve not had this issue with any other games, any advice? I notice if I switch my TV from “HDR Game Mode” to “HDR Theater” she doesn’t look red anymore, but then the whole screen is dimmer and harder for me to see things. I’m playing Mass Effect 1 through the Legendary Edition, on PS5 and a 4K TV.

Attached is a photo.

  • I've noticed the same thing, I'm pretty sure it's down to a sub-par implementation of subsurface scattering in Legendary Edition.

You should be able to alter the settings of 'HDR Game Mode' to more closely match the settings of the TV mode that does not have the issue.

    Thanks.

  • Adjusting the brightness and contrast via the game’s Graphics Options helped somewhat, but even then Shep is still pretty red in some cutscenes. I’m hesitant to  make any more adjustments because otherwise the screen isn’t bright enough for me to see things properly.

  • The scene with Jenkins at the start had the same issue on both my Series X and my PC, it's the game- I'd have to replay the scene in the original game and the issue might go away in the other two games but it is rather disappointing that you just see these ugly red hues breaking immersion.

You can see the difference in hue across her face. (Took it while replicating original Shepard). You watch the Jenkins scene with the doctor and it's enough to make you want to close your eyes.
