[EA app] Mass Effect 2 Black Screen on Collector mission

I played with no issues for 20 hours. While I was doing the first collector ship mission my game started to freeze for few seconds, show a black screen, then shut itself off. I couldn't find a fix anywhere, after a few tries managed to finish it without crashing.

It showed the black screen almost every mission, but I could finish the mission with no issues after few tries, but now the game became unplayable since it shows the black screen after 5-10 seconds of gameplay. I play on PC with no mods installed, bellow is a list of things I've tried.

1) Lowering graphics, disabling any effects.

2) Repairing the game and re-downloading via EA app.

3) Running in compability mode

4) Running in windowed mode

Nothing has worked so far

There are VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED errors in your DxDiag.

This means that the video engine is not responding within a period of time specified by Windows and therefore the video driver is reset.

This causes the game to crash. (And probably the black screens as well).

    • Follow this manual to the letter to cleanly uninstall all AMD driver components.
    • Install the graphics driver > Go online.
    • Test.

    Try to repair the game.

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

If that don't helps, please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

  • ALTHOUGH now that i look more, i see this is a problem with an AMD update everyone has been having- my bad thinking it was the game. thanks for the quick help ❤️
