Extremely low FPS in cutscenes when using eGPU (PC)

When pre-rendered cutscenes play, FPS drop to 5-10. Before the 17 May patch, they would only drop to 20-30 FPS (which is still not good). I assume this is related to the peripherals issue that others have had where some controllers and joysticks are causing FPS to plummet. I've tried disconnecting all peripherals from my PC, except for the external GPU, which I need to run the game; I've disabled my integrated graphics cards to ensure only my higher-performance eGPU is active; I've tried clean booting; I've tried turning off the Origin overlay; and I've tried turning VSync and all other graphical options off in-game, but none of these fix the problem. However, when I re-enable my integrated graphics cards and disconnect my eGPU, my FPS get back to 50-60 during cutscenes. This isn't a solution, of course, because my integrated graphics can't handle gameplay for very long.

The extremely slow cutscenes make parts of the game totally unplayable; audio and gameplay overtakes the cutscenes, so time-limited tasks and fights that start immediately after a cutscene are impossible to complete.

Why are peripherals having such a massive effect on framerate?

DxDiag attached (after disabling integrated graphics).

  • @RPGaff Same, would love to see this get some attention, egpu setup here with amd 6700 xt i9900k. 220 fps in game, 12 fps cutscene rendering it unplayable
  • same issue with my eGPU, using RX 580 8 Gb. cutscenes drop 1-10 FPS, whereas the GPU utilisation drops to 0%.

the game is unplayable since this causes the audio and video to be out of sync. you have to wait for your slideshow to finish to catch up with the game, and then get back to your normal FPS.

Thanks OP for mentioning this was better before 17 May patch. Would it be possible to revert to the old version? I am using Steam.
