Agree with much you have said in your post. LOL Liam is pretty Lame, initially I appreciated his positive attitude but it just went dumber as the story progressed and although Nomad is an improvement from Mako, I still disliked the drive up the mountain.
On your point on bugs, specifically :black widow didn’t work (I kept shooting enemies, but their health bars would not budge),
I had 2 playthroughs and used black widow in both(just loved the weapon and even though I tried branching off into other classes and profiles, I still find sniping at a distance is more my thing), never had any issues with this. The bug I had was that on Insanity at EOS(think it was the main base) the Kett Chosen disappeared/went invisible although they shouldnt have a cloaking ability, but I have not encountered the bug that you mentioned. Did you have your infiltrator profile on? If so it will highlight enemies even if they are behind cover and if so, you maybe shooting them behind cover thus not affecting their health?

I used the Black Widow interchangeably as a Vanguard and Soldier. Trust me, I shot many kett, who were completely out in the open, in the head. The head shots did not affect their health at all. I noticed it first happened on Eos as well, but it eventually occurred on other planets too. I sort of stopped equipping the Widow for a while because of this. But after I upgraded it in R&D to a higher level, it worked just fine. But it still doesn't excuse the bug. It would be nice for BioWare to at least take a look at it.
I really wanted to like the characters. I don't know if it's just too early to feel anything for them (especially Liam like we mentioned...who was downright bone-headed). So, I won't lose too much sleep over it. Ha! I think the most interesting was Jaal. His background, his personality, and even some of his facial features created a sense of vulnerability about him, which in turn made me want to protect him and be his loyal friend (sort of like characters like Liara, Tali, Garrus, etc. in ME3). BioWare does a great job creating characters which players can actually care about. I just don't think they've done a superb job this time around.

Liking characters takes time and proper writing/interaction. I also didn't immediately liked them all back in ME trilogy, honorable mention to Ash. I hated her until ME3.
Liam ... what I most dislike him is his speech. Sometimes I cannot grasp what he's saying. But Suvi's the one I most detest when speaking: a deadpan mechanical accenty whispering.
But after a second playthrough, I started sympathizing with them. I gather it all depends on living with them, even through the same story.

Agree that to really like the crew it takes time and proper writing, the issue I have here is there is time, my first playthrough for MEA was over 130 hrs, think that's more than my ME1 and ME2 playthroughs combined. The issue here is the writing, is not bad, just not at the level of the previous ME series. Simple example, SAM vs EDI, EDI has some of the most powerful scripts in the game, personality is enhanced through great voice acting. SAM is... a generic robot voice in my head. Conrad vs Cassandra is another example seems like shes there to lay an easter egg, no effort was placed in her character at all, she could have been so much more, so could Bain Massani(am seriously hoping that he could be recruited in MEA2). Comparing sob stories, the Erics(technician that hears his son's voice every time he completes a mission) vs the Blue Rose of Illum, when Ryder made his little sob/sniffle it was cringe worthy, blue rose of illum's story line was smart, powerful, classy and so well written and executed perfectly. All in think the blue rose story was 2-3 minutes in total but added so much value and flavour to the game. Even the main story line with a cut and paste job.
Oh and I still cant stand Ash, but to a certain extent that's also good writing that makes me feel that way. Liam on the other hand, well... like they say, "the best and brightest that milky way has to offer...."
