Liking characters takes time and proper writing/interaction. I also didn't immediately liked them all back in ME trilogy, honorable mention to Ash. I hated her until ME3.
Liam ... what I most dislike him is his speech. Sometimes I cannot grasp what he's saying. But Suvi's the one I most detest when speaking: a deadpan mechanical accenty whispering.
But after a second playthrough, I started sympathizing with them. I gather it all depends on living with them, even through the same story.

Agree that to really like the crew it takes time and proper writing, the issue I have here is there is time, my first playthrough for MEA was over 130 hrs, think that's more than my ME1 and ME2 playthroughs combined. The issue here is the writing, is not bad, just not at the level of the previous ME series. Simple example, SAM vs EDI, EDI has some of the most powerful scripts in the game, personality is enhanced through great voice acting. SAM is... a generic robot voice in my head. Conrad vs Cassandra is another example seems like shes there to lay an easter egg, no effort was placed in her character at all, she could have been so much more, so could Bain Massani(am seriously hoping that he could be recruited in MEA2). Comparing sob stories, the Erics(technician that hears his son's voice every time he completes a mission) vs the Blue Rose of Illum, when Ryder made his little sob/sniffle it was cringe worthy, blue rose of illum's story line was smart, powerful, classy and so well written and executed perfectly. All in think the blue rose story was 2-3 minutes in total but added so much value and flavour to the game. Even the main story line with a cut and paste job.
Oh and I still cant stand Ash, but to a certain extent that's also good writing that makes me feel that way. Liam on the other hand, well... like they say, "the best and brightest that milky way has to offer...."

EDI was too much win (just like GLaDOS is). Most of the characters had an appeal and you wanted to have them around. Jack was one I didn't like at first, but after Citadel DLC I was hoping to see her around already.
My perception is that SAM is going to evolve, perhaps too much in near future. Dunno if that's good or bad, given he's sort of a Siamese brother you'll have forever. But the potential for him going rogue and messing up with your life is great.
