Frame drops when spinning mouse rapidly

Playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition: Mass Effect 1 on high-end AMD hardware. I have one specific issue: the game freezes for "a quarter second" when I rapidly spin the camera around. Generally, my FPS can be in the ~100 range comfortably. Spinning the camera rapidly makes the game stutter and freeze. Interestingly, the frame rate counter never drops below 60; but this frame rate counter also doesn't update when the game is stuttering.

This is a new high-end AMD kit PC and I don't have a good "Benchmark" for it. Anyone else seeing "a quarter second" hang when rapidly spinning the mouse / camera?

  • I fixed it myself.

I changed a BIOS setting for Performance on my XPS 11 AMD Ryzen edition. I set it to automatically manage overclocking. Everything is smooth as butter. Amazing. IDK why I needed to change this setting but it's "night and day" for performance in Mass Effect and other games.

On a related note: I also fixed my "grey areas flicker" problem by disabling AMD FreeSync. This was happening across games so I didn't post it here.

Maybe this helps someone else with their own overly complicated AMD settings!
