Games will not load?
I purchased the Mass Effect collection for PC. Just installed them all and found that Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 will not run. They will not start, load, or give any sign that they have done anyth...
Things to try (checking after each one to see if the problem is resolved):
Let's start with, "Did you follow the instructions found in this topic: [Information] Mass Effect 1 and Windows 7 - You need patch 1.02 to play, which is pinned at the top of this forum?"
Next, set Origin to "Run as Administrator".
Then, disable "Cloud Storage" for saves.
Now, set MassEffect Launcher.exe to run in "Windows XP (SP3) Compatibility Mode".
Lastly, if ME2 really still won't start, set MassEffect2Launcher.exe to run in "Windows XP (SP3) Compatibility Mode".
Let us know how things go!
@thandanlyman: You really need to stop pointing people to that sticky, as Origin now automatically applies that patch to new installs, and your instructions to set MassEffect Launcher.exe to run in compatibility mode are wrong because there is no such file. You also missed the critical step of removing Origin from the system tray before trying to run it as administrator. I probably wasted a good 45 minutes trying to follow your instructions before I found the correct procedure in the post by "theprytanis" in this thread:

The sticky at the top of the forum is woefully inadequate for fixing the various issues with this game. I'm afraid that I am also no expert. So after those provisos, here's what I did:
1) Went to .../Origin Games/Mass Effect/Binaries.
2) Opened MassEffectConfig.exe
3) This verified that yes, in fact, the trilogy edition does come pre-patched to version 1.02. The information in the sticky and from several other snippy posters was incorrect regarding this. Check on the "Game" section of the config tool. If it doesn't read 1.02, then follow the instructions in the sticky. If it does read 1.02, you don't have to update. I didn't have to.
4) Close that tool.
5) Right click the MassEffect.exe.
6) Choose properties.
7) Switch to the "Compatability" tab.
8) Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box.
9) Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" in the drop down.
10) Apply, click OK, etc...
11) Close Origin.
12) Remove Origin from the system tray on the taskbar. There should be an up arrow at the bottom right of your screen, close to the system clock, on the task bar. Click the arrow, then right click the origin symbol and close it.
13) Right click MassEffect.exe.
14) Click "Run as Administrator".
That did it for me. Hopefully it works for you.

@zgworts;
Let's see...
1. We don't know that the person has the "new" install, and they didn't indicate that they had that patch applied
2. There is, in fact, the program MassEffectLauncher.exe on many (if not all) installations, so if it exists for a given player that fix helps. My own Win8 Pro/64-bit rig being an example.
3. Setting the Launcher programs to compatibility mode is a step I recommended to try AFTER changing Origin to "Run as Administrator". So if the solution you referenced were indeed adequate, then the instructions I gave (if followed) would have been as well, and the problem would have been solved before arriving at anything to do with the Launchers.
4. And if you "wasted 45 minutes" because you didn't completely exit a program before trying to change its run settings in Windows, then I'm sorry. But really now, I wouldn't have bothered to give instructions on how to "copy-paste" either, if that had been needed.
Lastly, if you believe that the solution you found is more appropriate than the sticky at the top of the forum that the Moderators selected, you might PM one of them and suggest that it be replaced.
