Help! Infinite loading screen for Captain's Cabin

It's been quite a few years since ME3 came out, and where I didn't have glitches before, now I have some.

EVERY time I try to go up to the Captain's Cabin, I get an infinite loading screen. I'm forced to close the game out entirely. Nowhere else this happens, only the Captain's Cabin. I also can't find all the ships I got from ME2 and the space hampster doesn't run around cargo. I also could not use Shep's (Engineer) powers on Palaven's moon (before and after getting Garrus). The HUD screen showed no powers/abilities except Unity. This makes it particularly difficult to reach Victus

I am also running into a thing, now, where the game resets ALL my settings each time I open it, and I suspect even each new mission.

DLC's verify and work just fine. On PC, a little older laptop but a year ago played all 3 trilogy games just fine (and plays Fallout, Skyrim, Dragon Age, and WoW just fine). But now upon downloading 3 again, I've suddenly got all these issues.

I have looked through searches and found others with the same problem, but theirs all seemed temporary and disappeared with a new playthrough, repairing through Origins, restarting the computer, or lowering the graphics settings. I have tried ALL of these, to no avail.

Has anyone had this problem lately? (Does anyone still play 3 anymore?) Any ideas how this can be fixed when the game is now ignored by Bioware/EA?

OK, Click on "Start" > Type "DxDiag" without the quotes > This should appear.

Click on it and follow the instructions in the DxDiag link in my first post.

Add the file to your next post.

Did you tried an older Save game?

From here it looks that we need to preform a game repair.

The problem with that is that it will purge your mods.

Do or did you used Mods?

    • Make sure that Origin is closed.
    • Go to your "Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect" folder and move the "BIOGame" folder to your desktop > Test.

If that don't works, create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply.

If you use Windows 7 also go to your Reliability monitor > Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and copy and paste or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in the new Window > hit “ENTER” and look if it has entries for the game you have trouble with.

If yes double click at the last entry for the game executable, copy the info to the clipboard, and save it to a text file.

You can attach the DxDiag text file you created (and the “Reliability monitor” text file as well) to your post in the “Reply” window with the “Choose File” button.

Thanks for replying. I was one of the "lucky" ones in Cali without power for days, but I will attempt both of those right now.

Sorry to hear. Hope the fires didn't do any damage to your property.

Thankfully I'm too far north for the fires, but thank you all the same.

So I'm not sure how to open the second option you suggested. My Windows key and my Escape key are both nonfunctional, and I haven't had time to go hunt for an external keyboard. Is there any other way I can pull that thing up to get the info?

As far as the folder, I moved it to my desktop and tried to launch the game both online and offline, but I got an error message and it did not run. Once I put the folder back, the game opened again as before (no use of the Captain's Cabin).

I do have a couple mods. The ones I'm presently able to use are the Cheaters Pad (because I'm a sissy and don't like to die), and an outfit mod that replaces the intro outfit and dress. I also have one that replaces Fiana Allers' dress with a more modest outfit. All are in DLC form.

I HAD tried to install hair mods and eyelash mods, but those have not shown up in character creation or in game play. (ME3 Explorer baffles me, I can't understand it. Even just trying to install mods, yoy have to understand how to mod first. I dont.) I also originally put the Interstellar mod file in my game but could not download the external requirement for some reason so I took that one, tiny file out and have since Repaired the game via Origin. Otherwise, I have all the actual DLCs.

I should probably add my laptop is an old HP 15 Envy with Win 8.1 and an Intel card w/4G ram. Whereas the game is not letting me get into the Captain's Cabin now, it previously worked just fine before I did not play it for a year. Back then, I also had the eyelash mod and same outfit mod as I have now.

Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.

I have a feeling I'll have to completely reinstall the game. Now the first elevator on the Citadel causes the an infinite loading screen. Irinically, I can get to the Captain's Cabin by using "ghost" and "fly", but the elevator still bugs out. So it's something specific to the elevator at that level of the ship. No idea why the first elevator on the citadel is bugging out though.

Not sure if these things will even help at this point.

  • Well, I think I got it fixed enough. I ended up deleting the mods and the patches, then repairing the game. I can now get into the Captain's Cabin and the Citadel elevator works again. I have a hinch the outfit mod or the Allers mod was what screwed it up. 😫 Ah, well.

Thank you for trying to help all the same. I appreciate it.

    @cheruvia2

    Good to hear.

This kind of problems is just something that happens if you use mods, especially if you're new to it.

The texture modes you mentioned should also work with "Texmod".

The benefit of Texmod is that no game files are altered.

The disadvantage is that the initial loading time of the game might increase.

Here is a PDF a fellow Hero, sundance31us, made to explain how to use Texmode with ME3 and Origin.

If you show me what hair and eyelash mods you want to install, I might be able to help you with that.

That would be awesome. I don't really understand all that mod lingo or the modder programs, but I tried to follow the instructions... clearly I missed something lol.

The hair mod I'm interested in is Hair Mods as DLC  (a couple from GpGf 17-32) https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/425

I can't find ANY eyelash mods now, which is weird, but it's not a huge deal.

    @cheruvia2

Did you see this PDF with the instructions?

    It is pretty detailed.

If yes, at what point do you get confused?

You need the "Gibbed Save game editor" and the "DLC Patcher files", both are linked at the "About this mod" site.
