Hitting Rocks for Science Mission

I am completely confused as to how to do this mission. I am on Eos and have found rich mineral areas. I have deployed the mining drones. What am I missing? Help? I've gotten through all the other sid...

    Yes, you won't be finishing this mission for some time, and be sure to set this as an active mission when you move on to some other planets too.

    You can return to Eos later, and there should be some changes to make it more hospitable.

I have found areas but the radiation is so high I just die. Is this a mission I can leave and come back for? Do the radiation levels finally go down on the planet?

    I'm having the issue that I cannot scan the mineral. My cursor turns green and chimes noting that I have something scan-able but when I left click to do so it doesn't register. I am almost complete with this mission and would love to finish it.
