I've been told I should just leave my system running maybe for a couple hours for the download to begin. I won't do that. This delay is intolerable and do you know why businesses do intolerable things? Because people tolerate them. This is ridiculous and if the download can;t begin within 5-10 minutes that EA is incompetent and needs to have people start kicking it until it shapes up.
The download should start Immediately. If it doesn't there is a problem.
What is your Origin version number? (Origin menu > Help > about.)
