How to delete ME2 DLCs Shadow Broker and Arrival

Greetings,

I`d like to delete the Mass Effect 2 DLCs `Shadow Broker` and `Arrival` from my PC.

`Shadow Broker` because it does crash right in the end.

There is a fix, I know,  but to be honest I`m more than a litte scared to try to do it. I might crash my whole PC in the process. PC gaming newbie here.

And for `Arrival`, well, it just doesn't`t fit in the storyline for me๐Ÿ™‚

And started freezing as well at loading screens. My Shepard died to often, I suppose ๐Ÿ˜ž

I`d be very grateful for every information I need to know in order for a proper remove of the dlc.

So far, I know where the DLCs are located on my PC and I guess, that is where I have to remove them but I don`t know which to select. Once removed can I just go on with the game or do I have to uninstall and then reinstall it?

Thank you very much in advanced for your help๐Ÿ™‚

  • Most times, once a play has started with the dlc installed, you have to continue to have them all the way to the end of the play or the save will not load.  Honestly, I would just ignore the beginning of each and leave them where they are until you are ready to start a new game.....and even then I may just leave it alone.

Uninstalling will to some extent depend on how you bought the game, ie steam, Origin, old bioware website back in the day....as it may try to auto-reinstall when you play again...

  • Thank you for your answer.

Probably the easiest to just ignore Shadow and Arrival in game๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I started to get a lot of crashes after I somewhat left Shadow unfinished. I went back to an earlier save, where Liara already left for her apartment but started Arrival from there.

Went fine at first but somewhere along the end run, Arrival started to crash at loading screens, especially when my Shepard died. And she died a lot. I got the message that ME2 wouldn't respond anymore, shut down and I`d get a note when it would be ready again. These crashes kept me stuck on a black screen with the music still going in the back but without an other way to leave than alt+con+del, having me to log in into everything again. I finished Arrival after several of these crashes.

Until the game crashed yesterday again when I just flew the MiniNormandy across the galaxy map. Had a WTF moment there.

I went on and deleted all the dlcs  from the folder and uninstalled and reinstalled ME2 through Origins again. And downloaded my other DLCs again from Origins except Shadow Broker and Arrival.

I hope that got rid of the crashing but since I haven`t hab problems before Shadow, it may as well did.

Funny thing, before you talk to the elusive man for the first time you can talk to Jacob and Miranda, only that Miranda was never there in the previous two game starts I did. Now she is.

Thank you very much again for your answer๐Ÿ™‚

    Greetings, L.

I doubt that "Arrival" was the real culprit here.

I think files of the main game got corrupted.

If something like this happens again, try to repair the game.

(in Origin > Game Library > right click ME2 > Repair) (in Steam  > right click at ME2 > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache.)

  • Thank you for your replay.

    How could they got corrupted?

Maybe because I crashed with Shadow before and went back to a save where Liara already left for her apartment. Right after that I started Arrival, never finishing Shadow but kept it somewhat  activated in the background.

Could be, but the fact that Miranda was missing at the very start of the game leads me to belief that there was a problem before that.

The name of "Arrival" in the DLC folder is "DLC_EXP_Part02" btw, it is enough to just remove the folder to uninstall it, but as said, the save games created with the DlC installed will not work.

If you have problems with "Arrival" in the future, the fix is really not that complicated. We can talk you through.

  • Interesting. Then I`d say `Shadow Broker` could be blamed here.

I purchased it along with ME and ME3 a while ago, created a character then for ME2 to just see if the game works but went on to play ME. And Miranda wasn't there.

I downloaded `Arrival`, `Overlord` and DLCs for ME3 rather recently.

Arrival and Shadow are deleted now and I uninstalled and reinstalled ME2.

I`d rather play Shadow Broker again to be honest. I immensely enjoyed Jennifer Hales voice acting in that one and Shepard's in general badassness ๐Ÿ™‚

I know what you mean, Jennifer Hales voice acting is the reason why I almost always play a FemShep.

You should not be afraid to install a DLC again, normally they don't make problems.

Download "Shadow Broker" from here and put the installer into the ME2 Game directory. (>drive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2 or >drive<::\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect 2)

Then run the installer as Administrator. (right click the exe > Run as Administrator)

As by all other program installations, you should close all not necessary background programs (especially of course Origin/Steam and the game) and disable the real time scanner of your Anti-virus software for the installation process.

  • I think, I`ll play ME2 through as it is right now `cause dear! this game is a treasure and probably will download Shadow later on.

But thank you for your help and advice, they`re very much appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚
