Did you mean the pistol receiver? It only shoots through cover (and the floor 😛). Nothing else.

The description only states it helps shoot through cover, but I have been assuming it would help against armored enemies like in ME3. Maybe it does, but I am finding it has little effect on the Krogan Berserkers and Hydras unless they are chilled or on fire. So I have fallen back to the talon pistol because it feels like the hurricane is not piercing armor even with the pistol piercing mod.
from my experience there isn't a benefit in using the piercing mod. it helps a little but not enough to use. and it seems that incendiary rounds took over armor piercing as the go to ammo when fighting armor targets. although multiplayer is based off ME3 the fighting style is completely different.
