Steam/steam deck game won't launch

Started yesterday and I'm guessing some sort of update happened in the background or server connectivity to EA's launcher. 
I've done just about everything I can do on the steam/steam deck side and I can only guess it's an EA thing. I've rebooted a gazillion times; verified all proton files, game files, tried all different proton versions and nothing has worked. (I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling for fear of losing my progress since this relies on EA cloud sync) 

I get no error messages, game attempts to launch and just dumps be back to desktop (in desktop mode) or the main game page in game mode. 

Anyone else experience this, or have some more helpful tips/tricks I can try?
