I think I have Strike Teams Figured out

Things to note

  • I have 4 strike teams at the moment
  • 3 of my strike teams are level 20
  • I have mission funds of 540
  • I have acquired 1 negative trait in all my experience
  • The most percentage of success you can have is 94% (there may be invisible bonuses that are counted but not shown)
  • You can have a maximum of 5 positive traits and 5 negative traits

Positive traits: Your team will be given these when they have a success on a mission, to my knowledge it is random and you will acquire these as your team progresses. Additionally you will be given 1 positive trait when you recruit a new strike team, this is very important.

These are traits that help your teams effectiveness on missions

Mission trait Positive team trait Negative team trait
Alien Presence   Xenophobe: -10 to Effectiveness
Bribe Attempt Virtuous: +10 to Effectiveness Corruptible: -10 to Effectiveness
Enemies Everywhere Bloodthirsty: +10 to Effectiveness Berserker: -10 to Effectiveness
High-Risk, High-Reward Daring: +10 to Effectiveness Timid: -10 to Effectiveness
Hostage Situation Hostage Rescue Specialist: +10 to Effectiveness
Kett Kett Specialist: +10 to Effectiveness Kett Hysteria: -10 to Effectiveness
Key Intelligence Component   Poor Intelligence: -10 to Effectiveness
Nighttime Mission Nighttime Operator: +10 to Effectiveness Nightblind: -10 to Effectiveness
No Room for Error Precise: +10 to Effectiveness Careless: -10 to Effectiveness
Outlaw Outlaw Specialist: +10 to Effectiveness Outlaw Hysteria: -10 to Effectiveness
Poor Weather Conditions Rugged: +10 to Effectiveness Ill-Prepared: -10 to Effectiveness
Remnant Remnant Specialist: +10 to Effectiveness Remnant Hysteria: -10 to Effectiveness
Scary Fearless: +10 to Effectiveness Cowardly: -10 to Effectiveness
Silent and Deadly Stealthy: +10 to Effectiveness Raucous: -10 to Effectiveness
We need a Hero Heroic: +10 to Effectiveness Hero Complex: -10 to Effectiveness
Universal Elite: +5 to Effectiveness
Grizzled Veteran: +5 to Effectiveness
Lucky: +5 to Effectiveness
Skirmisher: +5 to Effectiveness
Tactician: +5 to Effectiveness
Tough: +5 to Effectiveness
Reluctant Soldier: -5 to Effectiveness
Shell-Shocked: -5 to Effectiveness
Unlucky: -5 to Effectiveness

Negative traits: I do not have too much experience in this, but to prevent your team from getting negative traits I suggest you follow what I have to say. I have only received a negative trait on 1 occasion in which I sent my team on a GOLD APEX mission when they were not properly equipped.  I figured a 50-60% chance was good enough, it was a critical failure and frankly it ruined a lot of opportunity for me.

Equipment: Not worth it until level 20, will be further explained in the Gold Mission section

Starting out: When you recruit a new strike team, or are starting out for the first time DO NOT send your team on any silver or gold missions, they are simply not ready.

What you want to do is send them on BRONZE missions that compliment their 1 positive trait. If there isn't one, then simply send them on any other bronze mission. When you do this you will be given a 70-74% chance of success, that is perfectly acceptable for a lvl 1 strike team and will help you as you advance.

Intermediate: When you have your strike teams leveled up and they are ready for silver (80% +) Do the same as above, try to find missions that compliment their positive traits thus far and send them on PRIMARILY APEX missions (You get more xp for apex missions). At this point you should have enough points for a second strike team I suggest investing into another strike team and sending the lvl 1 strike team on bronze missions while sending your lvl 10-20 strike teams for silver.

Gold Missions: So you want to complete gold missions eh? You want to actually have a success rate that is not 40-60%? YOU WILL NEED EQUIPMENT.

Ever since I have purchased the Quick response vehicle IV on my lvl 20 lima (also has +10 effectiveness to hostage situations as a positive trait) I receive a 88-94% chance of success on Gold Hostage situation missions.

This is an investment, you are managing teams and will make good or bad decisions that will determine how efficient you are.

I also have Breaching charges on one of my strike teams November which allows me to have an 84-88% chance of success, sometimes higher depending on how well the mission compliments my positive traits.

Ideally:  You want to have 6 strike teams, 4 with each piece of IV equipment so they can handle the different type of missions. You want two strike teams to have EXCEPTIONAL HUMAN INTELLIGENCE, these teams will be your fillers send them on any other mission but gold. I know this may not make sense but EHI only adds 20 effectiveness overall, whereas the IV equipment adds a +40 effectiveness bonus towards their selected role.

By doing this we can ensure all the gold missions that are given can be completed (with a small chance of failure) and we can make sure that we are not getting mission failures on silver and bronze at 94%.

With 2/4 of the IV equipment and no EHI there are usually two gold missions per day that I cannot complete. If I am lucky one will be an apex mission and I can complete it in multiplayer with a team (my apex rating is 12,176)

I would recommend spending no MF on the lower tier IV and effectiveness equipment, this is because at lvl 20 you will ALMOST ALWAYS have a 94% chance of success with bronze and silver missions. It is just a waste and when you replace your equipment you lose it and only receive what you replace it with. Also retiring strike teams is not viable unless they have an abundance of negative traits. Retiring teams may be strategic if you have the mission funds and are planning to have a full roster. For example, if I retire a team, when I recruit a team it will cost less mission funds.

Summary: YOU NEED EQUIPMENT TO FARM GOLD MISSIONS, AND IF YOU DONT HAVE IT YOU WILL GET A TON OF NEAGTIVE TRAITS. IF YOU JUST WANT ENOUGH MISSION FUNDS FOR MP EQUIPMENT THEN JUST DO SILVER AND BRONZE MISSIONS, THOSE ARE ENOUGH.

Hope this helped

Good job on this! I don't pay much attention on APEX stuff nor MP, but I acknowledge all your effort at rounding all that info, thus gave you a kudo vote.

Excellent work here, allthough in a broad sense relatively obvious (don't do stuff if odds are bad, match traits/equipment with mission parameters).

Nice to see it broken down in a chart.  People keep saying you can have up to 5 traits but I still can't get that to happen.

I have 5 teams now and 4 of them are level 20 - they've all gathered one single negative - and 4 positives.

I have tried my darndest to take on EVERY mission the game makes available, on a daily basis - so either RNG is screwing me hard, or there is some sort of other mechanic in play that is stopping me from getting a 5th trait.

The thing is - looking at the APEX app select your team and then look at the traits menu (especially if you already have 4)  you can clearly see there is only room for 4 traits on the screen, and I have maintained for a while now that I believe this is the maximum in either side.  I have only heard anecdotal evidence saying 5, and now your pictures - so it leaves me wondering.

Still thank you for this wealth of information, I'm sure it will help somebody else.

Also for what it's worth, I put the exceptional human intelligence on everybody, the reason is because if you build for a role - you do get more effectiveness in that role, but you gimp the team for any other task.  With Human Intelligence you can get 94% on Golds as long as you have the right faction buff - and since you accruse other minor bonuses, you can pretty easily achieve a 94% success rate on all mission, while saving some funds from the +40 gear (since funds buy gear in MP, this can be useful).

@lagruej if you only have 4 positive traits at level 20, you won't get more. Actually every team gets 4 postive traits: at level 5, 10, 15 and 20. So you only can get the 5th trait, if your team already has one at the time you recruit it.

And it's not correct, that 5 is also the max for negative traits. There are people who already have teams with 11 negative traits (or maybe even more by now).

Hello,  Great Article with a lot of info I've been searching for. My only question is if you hit y to Retire Team the pop up says ( Are you sure you want to retire this item ) Button A shows Retire Team, B to Cancel.. My issue is with the word "Item" which makes you think your going to Retire One member of your Apex Team an not the whole Team. That's what I've been searching for is know if I retire one or the whole team and have to start completely over??? Don't want whole team retired if you don't have to do so. Also I read for the level 20 Achievement to apply it's your Apex Team you have to retire to receive it. Didn't find this till I already had 5 Apex team's. So any clarity on how it's worded as to if i loose my whole team or one individual. Thanks for your Article an time you put forth. Any help appreciated. Have a great day...

It will retire the entire team, after which you can recruit a fresh team starting at Level 1. I've done so a couple of times to get rid of teams with too many negative traits.

My November Strike Team has 5 positive traits and 0 negative.  Granted 2 of them only score 5 each, but there is still 5 positive traits.  The 2 scoring 5 however are universal so those can be applied to any mission.

Have got my strike teams up to 5 teams now, with 3 at 20, 1 at 17 and the 5th new one at rank 6.

This is too good a post thread to let it dip into the depths of this forum underneath 'i would like to romance the hamster, please provide a romance option for this' type posts, so i'm boldly bumping it up.

Anyone who plays single player but does not really like multiplayer should still use strike teams every single day that they play.  Why?  because at no point do you need to do a multiplayer match if you don't want to.  You can have up to 6 strike teams in total, and as rewards for successful missions you can get Credits, weapons/items resources and research points from all areas.. all in quantity, and all fully useable in your single player game.

The cap on rewards for strike teams is 200 items, they sit in a nice queue of rewards ready to be collected, and all the guns etc, you can disassemble into resources if you wish too!.  It's WIN/WIN!!

So get your Strike Teams busy.  Start off with 1 then as you build up mission funds either buy equipment to make them even better, or recruit a new team so you can do more missions within a certain amount of time.

Also there is the very excellent APEX HQ app which you can use and manage your strike teams even while you are away from your PC/console.   Worth the download totally!!!!!

So what are you waiting for Pathfinder?
