If you purchase ME Trilogy in Russia, what will be the language of ME3?

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ANSWERING

(I'm yelling because the Russian version of ME3 is handled differently from other European versions. It has no language choice. Also, the question has information that is probably new for you. Please try to understand.)

Fact 1. When buying ME3 (standard game, not the Trilogy) from the Origin Store in Russia, you're asked to choose game language. The only option is Russian. The game doesn't download other language files, and doesn't have an option to change language later. None.

Fact 2. When buying ME Trilogy in Russia, you're asked to choose language. This time, language choices are rich, and identical to choices when buying ME2 in Russia. They include English, several European languages, and Russian. However, this is misleading, because one game in the bundle (Mass Effect 1) doesn't have a Russian version at all (and neither does it have Hungarian, Polish or Czech). I suspect that we're similarly being lied to about the language of the bundled ME3. This borders on fraud, because the consumer is being misinformed about the product he's buying.

When selling games on digital distribution platforms, publishers often split them into multiple "versions" for different regions of the planet, which come with restrictions on content, language, region where you can activate the game, or multiplayer matchmaking region. The difference between versions is hidden, and the users can't distinguish them by the title.

Intuition tells me that the Origin Store probably has only one standard version of each game for each region (with Deluxe and Collector editions mirroring all restrictions of the standard version), with Europe being a single region. The version of ME3 sold in Europe comes with several languages and an option to switch between them. The version of ME3 sold in Russia can't have languages other than Russian (which the Origin Store honestly tells you before the purchase).

There's no way to view the details on game versions in the bundle before the purchase. You can only see the titles. I suspect that each game in the bundle will automatically be assigned the standard version of your region.

TLDR: It looks like Russian buyers of the Trilogy (as well as Hungarians, Poles and Czechs) are being misinformed about the languages of the games they're paying for. Fraudulent on part of EA.

Knowing EA's attitude on regional restrictions and quality of service, I wouldn't count on me being wrong.

So, the question is: can anybody who bought ME Trilogy in Russia confirm or deny my suspicions? Thanks in advance!

  • Wait, I'm confused.  Is the issue that there simply is NO Russian version of ME1 and this fact is not made clear in the on-line purchase of the Trilogy, or that you're concerned that the same is true of ME3?   (This last part of the question is because the title of your topic is not about the language of ME1 in the Trilogy pack, but that of ME3.)

I understand your concern, I saw only mass effect 2 that had the English language, the 3 and 1 only Russian.

As far as I know this happens because the games are more cheaper in Russia then Europe so they don\t want people to buy from there, only from there regain that way this happen. Your only way to find a solution to the problem is to go to ea support or call them and see what they say about this or read there FAQ about language choice.

Not only EA does this think, Diablo 3 that people bought from Russia had 2 language English and Russian and after some time they patch the game so you can only have the Russian language

I have edited the question for clarification. The point is, since language selection for the bundle offers you to choose versions that simply don't exist for one game in the Trilogy, and the store doesn't bother to tell you about it, it's very likely that language selection for the Trilogy is complete BS and you'll be stuck with whatever version of ME3 is standard in your region.

I'm perfectly aware why the publishers impose regional restrictions, even though they are horribly wrong. EA support is useless -- they take forever to get an answer from, they treat you like an idiot and fail to actually read the request and get the point, they are unaware of details of region-specific versions and restrictions, and they can't do anything about it. They can't (or won't) override Store restrictions and allow you to buy a version normally not sold in your region.

Regarding Diablo 3, I think you have been misinformed. People who bought the English version of Diablo 3 in Russia (myself included) have never been robbed of language choice. I can choose between any of the European languages. There is a separate, downpriced, Russian-only D3 license, and it has been Russian-only from the start.
