I'm really starting to like consumable ammos

Back when I started playing MEA I didn't like the consumable ammos.  I rarely found any, didn't have many credits so I couldn't afford them, and lasting only for 3 clips they ran out too quickly.  Now that I understand crafting better I'm augmenting some weapons to take advantage of a particular ammo type (like the cryo aug that amplifies the cryo ammo with 100% freeze duration).  Early on I used to think those augmentations added the ammo effect.  But had I really read the description, I would have realized they only amplified the effect if that ammo was used.  Now that I belatedly understand, I'm utilizing the augs/ammo combination for certain weapons, in certain (difficult) combat situations.

Lasting only 3 clips, they are still basically useless on weapons whose clips only hold very few rounds.  But on weapons like the Revenant Assault Rifle (around 80 rounds per clip) I find these ammos can really help in a tough mob-type combat scenario.  Disruptor  ammo can be great for mobs of Remnants, and the incinerate ammo great for armored opponents.  I don't use them on a regular  basis, but stockpile them when I really need them.  I'm finding more of the ammos as loot, and now that I have all those credits (with nothing really to buy) I can afford to buy the ammos.

I do wish they lasted longer than 3 clips (maybe like 5 or 6), and I still don't have much use for the other consumables.

  • I suppose I understand that they can be powerful when used right but to me it's still too much of a nuisance to use them so I still avoid them. Personally I much prefer being able to select an ammo type that I can use reliably and not have to reactivate every two enemies.

Yeah i just used to forget that they even exist. Especially in the middle of a prolonged firefight i cannot track when i emptied 3 clips because there are other things i have to pay attention on.

This making me charging into the battle with an ammo type loaded and then when it runs out, it runs out finishing the battle just like that.

At least people who reload constantly like me, when there are no enemies to shoot at or im forced to cover, not wasting the bonus ammo because the game doesnt care how many times you reload, but how many bullets you fire in total.

I generally resort to this only with heavily armored enemies, and not much else (so a fiend, a hydra or a destroyer).

Wait... what?  There is consumable ammo?  🙂

I never did understand why they used the term "consumables".  As if I could re-use the regular ammo somehow.  Let me go dig those shells out of those Kett, find a work bench, and repack some new rounds.

I actually need to start trying some of the consumables.  Not only do I not use the weapon related ones, I don't even use the others ones, like life support, backup, etc.  Just haven't ever needed them, even on higher difficulties.  However, might change up the game play a bit.

Backup life support doesn't seem to work (it should be out of combat better resistance for hazards but I don't notice any difference).

Disruptor ammo seems most useful for me, but depends whether your skillset already gives good damage vs shield/synthetic. Incendïary is good against armored, again depends on skills. For somereason I don't use cryo at all, though that has it's perks too (armor debuff, primer chance)

Make them a mod instead. A mod for a mod.

  • Consumables have some issues. You can't easily see what hot-key to use for which consumable. There is no icon for using life support (nor any message if you can't use it or how it works).

The HUD needs some fixing so that this is no longer an issue.
