Is there even a point to research & development?

During my ~100h insanity playthrough of the game i realized at some point that crafting gear is completely useless.

- In the beginning of the game you're not sure what to build and points are scarce, so you horde until you get a better feel for it.

- In the middle of the game you pump points into a few research options. Wich is like playing the lottery because what you build may or may not be * compared to what you have. And you don't get nearly enough points to research the majority of items.

- Then somewhere close the endgame you realize that looted gear goes up to level X. While your researched stuff only goes to V, making any self-built gear utterly pointless. It's true you get bonuses and possibly more mod slots but that's assuming you invested in worthwhile weapons/armor to begin with and even then they are hardly better than the higher level regular stuff you can find or buy and generally not worth the effort.

Thoughts?

  • After you research something to lvl V, you will get a new item on the research list called 'Advanced weapon/armor'. This lets you research that weapon or armor from VI to X (lvl 50 to 80).

  • So i take it you never really researched anything up to level 5. Otherwise you would notice that a second research item for level 6-10 is created.

Edith thinks i am getting old that i need longer for less words than the one above me, i am ashamed.

  • There is a point.

Bioconverter oriented character build makes insane difficulty easypeasy.

Also a commonly known hint, whenever you can, always buy +2 mod augment. Ignore +1.

etc etc, even if the outcome sucks in combat 😉, you can still be creative.

IMO crafting is a strong point of this game.

Thanks guys, no i stopped at level IV with my rifle i think and scrapped the whole idea. Why the hell is it split?

Well that's just another flaw in this utter mess they call interface.

Seriously i love this world, i love the characters (i really do like them) but the interface is a chaotic, buggy mess. -.-

  • I assume they didint want to spoil the max item level from the start to everybody

True, UI is outright horrible and if they plan to rework anything, menus should be the top priority.

    Yep.

I got to level 6 on everything in my first play through and level 10 a few hours into the third.

Level 10 makes the game a little too easy.

My armor has 14 Ultra Rare Augmentations now and my rifle and sword carry 6 more.

All to buff biotics. Almost god mode.

I have to rely on crafting. For my Sentinel, the things that dropped gave pretty much only Soldier bonuses. Now I rolled a mainly biotic Ryder, and she gets gear with tech bonuses...
