Issues with Xbox wireless controller on PC (ME1, ME2)

Ok, so I started ME:LE (on PC) and then opened my current progress on ME1 (EDIT: and on ME2), using an Xbox Series X controller (connected to the PC via Bluetooth); and as soon as the gameplay starts the controls go haywire - The camera continually spins, some of the buttons stop working, and some buttons are swapped with others.

If I remove the controller's batteries, the game reverts to keyboard/mouse input, but even if I put again the batteries, or if I reset the game and my PC, the controller behaves the same.

Oddly enough, if I remove the controller's batteries and connect via USB cable to the PC, the controls work perfectly.

Has anybody experienced this?

Cheers!

EDIT: I bought the game via Origin.

    Same issue here.

Series X controller mappings over Bluetooth on PC are totally broken in ME1. Haven't tried ME2 or ME3 yet.

The same controller works in other games, and in this game's launcher.

I have it on Origin too, and found this workaround was successful - connect the controller with the USB-C cable and start the game. Once you are in and playing, you can remove the cable and it will revert to using Bluetooth, with the mappings still functional.

edit: The other thing that works, is to start the game with keyboard/mouse and turn on your controller after you get to the ME1 menu.

  • @EA_David It's a step in the right direction, although I forgot to mention I bought ME:LE via Origin; so the Steam workaround is not an option for my issue.

@Profanicus I tried this a couple of times and so far it has worked for me. Kudos for that find!!! Will post any updates.

@Profanicus Nice one, that works for me too! It's not fixed in the recent pach, but I can plug my controller in over the other side of the room, load the game, disconnect it and play wirelessly.

Nope, I have no other devices plugged in, not even a mouse. What does work is the work around @Profanicus posted, which is to start the game from the launcher with the controller plugged in with a USB C cable, then disconnect it once the main menu appears.

  • You can't turn on a wireless controller before the game starts or it doesn't work/goes crazy. Turning it on in the main menu of the game, not the launcher or just after loading the game works fine. Also if you take the battery out and connect it via wired then it works fine even before the game loads so hopefully this can help a few players

  • My friend had this problem with his controller. He was playing via Origin BUT had Steam open, once he closed Steam down, the controller worked fine. When he was pressing LB on the controller, it would bring up the Steam virtual keyboard and sticks were inverted. There maybe something up with the Steam controller configurations where you can set different controllers up to work with Steam games.

Anyway hope this helps in some way.

  • Ok so I figured this out on my end maybe it will help you all. Firstly, make sure you have Xbox Accessories installed (I'm sure you all do just stating that).

Now, this is happening because at one point or another we have had a joystick / hotas installed. I have a Space Sim Duo I haven't used in quite a while and it hasn't been plugged in. Yet I was still getting camera spin.

What I did was launch device manager, plug in a T.16000m and then completely uninstall it's drivers. Working perfectly now via USB and Bluetooth. Hope this helps.

Have you found a way for the Xbox controller and the HOTAS to coexist. I dont want to uninstall my HOTAS just to play ME as I regularly play other gems the need the HOTAS
