I had attempted to download and install Mass Effect 2 using the On The House option provided on origin.com, however after I downloaded Mass Effect 2 and clicked "Install," it has said on the bottom t...
After the initial download was complete, it proceeded directly to the documentary pack, and once that was done the download process stopped. The bar at the bottom no longer showed that anything was downloading and all other packs said that they were queued, but I couldn't click on them to start the download process. The only pack that showed any sort of ability to interact with was the documentary pack and once I clicked it, it provided a message that said I couldn't download the pack until Mass Effect 2 was installed. I tried to then install Mass Effect 2, but it would load, fill the installation bar, and then never install, since clicking download now on the documentary pack would tell me that I needed to install Mass Effect 2 first. I'm not sure why this is occurring, why it didn't continue with the queued packs, or why it isn't installing after the bar shows that its complete.
If I understand you correctly you did not run Origin as administrator?
Is your Windows user account not an administrator account?
No, I was unable to run origin as an administrator and the windows user account I use isn't an administrator account.
OK, then you already run Origin as an Administrator on XP.
Can you try to install The Sims 4 trial without that this is creating additional cost for you? That could help us to isolate the error.
Thank you for explaining to me that I already run Origin as Administrator; I had begun to think that it was a problem with Origin and not being able to run as Administrator that was causing the problem.
I had clicked on the link you provided that was supposed to lead to a Sims 4 free trial, but it didn't show for me. Rather it showed a standard or a deluxe download option, both of which cost money. Perhaps this could be because I already own The Sims 4?
Since I couldn't download The Sims 4, I uninstalled a previous "On The House" game I downloaded before, Dungeon Keeper, and reinstalled it. The download and installation went through in less than ten minutes and it gives me the option to "play" when I click on the icon in my library.
However, when I went to initially log into my origin account (prior to downloading and installing Dungeon Keeper), it resumed downloading Mass Effect 2 from the point where I had said it paused previously, but once each individual download would finish, the download bar would be full and say "finalizing download." I waited for over five minutes the first time it said this and it never proceeded to the next download in the queue, which led me to log out and log back in, thus causing the download to resume at the next point in the process. This pause at "finalizing download" continued for all of the downloads except one, which caused me to log out and log in to advance the downloading process. Once all of the downloads were finished, I clicked install and at the bottom the installation bar showed that Mass Effect 2 installation was finished, but when I clicked on the icon in my library, there wasn't an option to "play," instead it said "install."
I don't understand why it resumed downloading as soon as I logged in, wouldn't finalize a download unless I logged out and then back in, or why it will let me download, install, and play Dungeon Keeper, but not Mass Effect 2.
