Mass Effect 1 - Translation Issues
So I managed to search throughout the Internet for solutions on translating ME to my mother language and I found some easy to use tools for the ME2 and 3 .tlk files. Beside the fact that the ME games have this huge number of dialog lines, another difficulty I have is the non-existence of a translation tool for the first ME. It's obvious that for the first game, BioWare used a very customized version of the Unreal Engine, which only they can manipulate right. Or so it seems.
What I know on the subject for now, is that I can use the unreal package extractor to open the "GeneralTlk.upk" file, storing the dialog and menu/ui inscriptions. The other important location - in the "Maps" folder of the game's directory, is the big deal - the place where the actual dialog lines are stored in .SFM format for in-game representation. I can open both extensions with the unreal package extractor, but I don't find it useful. I read some posts with vague guidelines about opening these .upk packages with the Unreal Editor, but I don't think it will do it's job on translation either. It's more of a way for extracting meshes and textures from the game.
I don't think I will manage to even scratch the surface on this translation project. My question guys is can we expect to see a ME1 translation tool, like the one that already exists for ME2 and 3, and when? Because the Mass Effect universe is a huge one and I would be very grateful if I can see it described with the words of my native language. It's a cyrillic one and any help will be of a great value to me. Благодаря!
