    Darn.  Someone actually posts useful information, and it's a problem I haven't a clue about.  

    Perhaps disable antivirus during before starting the game?

    It sounds as though you're overheating (either your CPU or your GPU), or that you've got a problem with your RAM.  The latter can be tested by running memtest.  The former... maybe immediately after you have a problem, power off the machine, power it back on right away, go into the bios and see what your CPU temperature is at?  I believe there are also tools you can run concurrently that would give you real time temperature data.  I don't have any that I've had personal experience with, but this sounds decent:
