Mass Effect 1 direct x message

I was playing Mass Effect 1 just fine last night but today when I turned on my computer and went to launch the game I got a message "Please install DirectX 9.0c or later (see Release Notes for instructions on how to obtain it)" but when I try to update direct x I'm told I already have the latest version.

I run my game in Origin and was getting this error. EA was able to give me the following solution which worked for me.
1. Right click the game in Origin, and select "Game Properties."
2. Check the box "Disable Origin in Game for this Game."
This fixed the problem for me. Hope it fixes it for other people.
