mass effect 1 install problems windows 7 home edition

how do u install mass efect 1 on a desktop pc that has windows 7 home edition .  i tried last night.  there was no digloue box telling me to intall disk 2. therefore  i only intalled disk1. i tried to run it but error came up.  is there a patch that can help install mass effect 1 on windows 7. help
