    Is this the scene when you meet Jacob for the first time, and he tells you he is a biotic??  That scene is waiting for you to use Jacobs power.  IF you can't use the power, then I would suggest you repair the game, and retry, and if that doesn't work, try another start of the game from the beginning.  If it is the scene where you have just gotten the grenade launcher, then you have to hit the area to ignite the takes creating fire to run through.  So you have to fire just in front of the elevator, slightly to the left of the center of the screen.

It worked!! Thank you very much. I had to click R1 instead of L1 to use Jacob's ability. I didn't know the abilities were separated from the weapons icon. Your advice definitely helped me out.
