Mass Effect 2 crashing on Galaxy Map

Played this game a couple of years ago without issue. Decided to replay the series as renegade recently. 

I've gotten as far as completing the Horizon mission but can't seem to leave Horizon. 

I enter the galaxy map which shows me that I'm at Horizon (the docking option is no longer available since mission there is completed I guess). So the only other option is to hit the back arrow which should zoom me back out into the local solar system. I briefly get a view of the Solar System then ME2 stops responding. 

I get a windows message

"Mass Effect 2 has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

I had the problem once before, but going back to a previous save solved it. 

That does not seem to be working this time. 

Other things I've tried

Installed patch 1.02 (seems to be the most recent one)

Ran repair from Origin (needed to after the patch which was casing a .dll error, fixed the .dll error but ME2 still crashes at Galaxy Map) 

My system (if it helps):

Intel i7 2.2Ghz

8GB RAM

64 bit

Running Windows 7

I guess I'll try uninstalling and Reinstalling ME2, but doubt if that will help, since running the repair probably checked the files already. Looking for any other suggestions.
