Mass Effect 2 Legendary Ed. Paragon - Renegade without logic

This is by design. In some persuasion checks, the paragon check is easier than the renegade check and vice versa. It doesn't matter that you have more points in one compared to the other. Both persuasion checks in this scenario have the same outcome, so this isn't really an issue regardless.

If, for any reason, you don't want to pick the paragon choice, you can choose to lose this persuasion check and later attempt to regain the loyalty of the party member you angered with a renegade option.
