Mass Effect 2 not launching after downloading Arrival and Shadow Broker DLC
I have the Mass Effect Trilogy (disc version for PC) and I've played through Mass Effect 1 with no major problems. I imported my ME1 save file with no issues and finished the main missions of Mass Effect 2 also with no problems launching or loading, until I tried to download Arrival and Shadow Broker DLCs.
System details:
Intel Core i5-3470 CPU/ 3.20 GHz / 8 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7700 / 1.0 GB
Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
DirectX 10.0
Details about problem:
After I finished the suicide mission, I was able to play a few side missions without problems launching Mass Effect 2. But after I downloaded and installed Arrival and Shadow Broker from the BioWare Social Network site using my Origin/EA account, I was suddenly unable to launch Mass Effect 2 at all.
The first time I got an awc.dll error, and after looking through all the help forums I was unable to find a solution that worked (downloaded Adobe AIR, etc). I ended up uninstalling both DLCs. This got rid of the awc.dll error, but now I cannot open Mass Effect 2 at all.
When I try to open ME 2 as Administrator either from the Desktop shortcut, Program Files folder, or Mass Effect 2 Launcher the browser immediately opens Origin and shows a brief "launching" pop-up before it disappears and nothing happens. I've tried repairing the program from Origin but it comes back with no errors found. If I start Origin from Program Files as Administrator then try opening Mass Effect 2 I still get the same problem. This happens when I have cloud save on or off.
When I try trouble-shooting using XP compatibility mode, I get an "ssleay32.dll" error.
I have not modded the game or altered any of the file locations.
Can I please get some help with this? It's frustrating because I don't want to risk losing my save files by reinstalling ME2, and I didn't have any problems before trying to download Arrival and Shadow Broker. I paid for both DLCs so I really want to play them, but now I can't even play the main game anymore.
Thanks for the help.
Sigh, I reinstalled Mass Effect 2, then downloaded all DLCs using Origin, instead of installing from the BioWare Social Network site. It took a few hours, but it worked.
