Mass Effect 2 not working

I have read the various threads with solutions about how Mass Effect Triliogy edition isn't working as intended namely for Mass Effect 2. I am expierencing the same problem and have tried the various solutions but have had no results. Are those solutions (renaming .exe files/delete configure and redownload) intended for triliogy only or any copy of ME2? My copy of ME2 is a standalone version if you will. Many, Many moons ago the powers that be sent me a free code of ME2 as part of an aniversary/sequal promotion since I had bought DA2. Thus I consider it as part of non triliogy. I started expierencing this problem back in FEB and looked up solutions and saw that the same solutions and problems reported are still occuring today. I am both surprized and not surprized over EA/Origin not making an official bug fix for this. I even tried runing as an ADMIN and in compability mode set for WIN7.

Second Question: Under the DLC for ME2 most of what I have purchased has downloaded. The only exception is the Ceberus Network not downloading. It says "click here/get it now" but a blank pop screen just appears and remains blank. However; I see the Zaeed/Fire pack and other DLC related content for it have down loaded successfully. Should I be concerned that this isn't down loading...could this be a factor to the problem stated above?

I know my laptop can handle the game so I am not worried about specs. Any insight and help is appreciated.

Best regards- Another disapointed ME fan.

  • Could you describe exactly what happens when you try to launch the game? Is there an error? Or does nothing happen at all? Are you launching through Origin?

Cerberus Network is not DLC. It's an entitlement you own that allows you to download content such as Zaeed, Firewalker, etc. For this reason, Cerberus Network itself can't be downloaded.

It wouldn't hurt if you could post your specs anyway. Very often when someone says their hardware is good enough without actually posting their hardware, it turns out it's below the system requirements.

  • Sequence of events:

I start up origin and select ME2 from my list. The orange play button starts out lit up and then fades out if you will. Which i understand is normal. I usually walk away and finish some task while it starts up usually a period of 5-7 minutes before i return. Upon return the orange play button either remains faded out with no game window popped up or has returned to the lit "play" status. According to the task manager menu, under processes, the ME2 appears to show up and then disspear which I am understanding as the ME2 program has stopped running.

Basic stats (Not a techy and on a time limit atm so i will edit with more when I can dig up the specs): A dell XPS M1530 laptop. Nivida GeForce 8600M GT card,

Idea as to what games I can play with out trouble: DAO, DA2 (medium graphics), ME, ME2 (before issues), ME3 (medium Graphics),

SWTOR, GW2, GW1, formerly COH/COV. Which i know uses a bunch of different requirements, but again just to surve as a idea of what can be run or not run.

Just a thought: Does ME2 require the direct x 9 or 11. I think DA2 has that glitch of one needs to run direct 9 and not 11.

Thank you for the response and it is greatly appreciated.
