Right just downloaded this game as it was in the sale I thought why not... Oh was I wrong, yet again Origin has let me down. I can not play this game due to an activation issue. After trying to play ...

They are in maintenance....will be at least. I know it doesn't connect directly to the problem but it might mean something down the line.

As for how it still happens with digital purchases...I'd imagine that regardless that information is stored within servers or perhaps even in variables within the server. If the server has a problem with storing that content, it could do something like this.
But then again, I'm no EA representive so take it with a grain of salt.

Some players have reported that after recently downloading and installing specifically Battlefield 3, the first Crysis, Mass Effect 3, or Plants vs. Zombies, that their game does not activate in their Origin My Games list.
We're investigating this issue and are working to get you back into your game as quickly as possible.
