mass effect auto weapon swap

Using "Sentenel" character. (Also applies to other characters.)
Weapon is auto swapped during game pllay, even when weapon is not active (cannot be used)
How to prevent?

I remove the "weapon swap" key binding when I play; usually it's tied to the mouse wheel and it' too easy to accidentally hit it.
